Reuters says the week is dominated by big-bank results, which start on Tuesday with JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and Wells Fargo. Analysts surveyed by LSEG expect third-quarter earnings for S&P 500 companies to have jumped by more than 30%.

The consumer price index is one of the last major data points before the Federal Reserve meets at the end of October. The Fed raised rates last month for the first time since 2023, and the inflation figures will inform whether it moves again.
